Just before you have Lydia IUD placed

If you want to get Lydia IUD, the first thing you need to do is to talk to your health care provider. She will determine if it is the right method for you. Lydia IUD must be inserted and removed by a trained health care provider.

You can get it inserted anytime of the month although some providers like to insert it during your period. Anytime is fine provided that your health care provider is certain that you are not already pregnant.

What to expect when getting Lydia IUD placed

Inserting Lydia IUD is not a surgical procedure, rather, with a quick hospital visit that lasts about 5 minutes, you can walk out with your IUD. During insertion, you may feel some cramps but this passes quickly and many women admit they are surprised when the doctor or nurse tells them they’re done with the insertion

Once the IUD is in, you will notice a short thread that hangs down from your cervix (neck of the womb) into your vagina. This thread is there to help your health provider remove your Lydia IUD when you are ready to stop using it.

After the Lydia IUD is placed

Lydia IUD starts working immediately it is inserted-no waiting period. After it is in, there is not much you have to do. You can go about your every day activities including sex.

You should use the tip of your finger to feel for the thread from time to time especially after your periods, and in the first three months of use. This helps you to confirm that your Lydia IUD has not come out by itself. Please do not pull on those threads or try to remove your IUD by yourself.

Some women may have cramps, heavier & longer periods, or spotting between periods. Most of which diminishes after a few weeks without any form of treatment. However, if you still feel uncomfortable after 3months please talk to your provider.

Lydia IUD can be removed at any time before the due date if you wish to get pregnant or for any other reason.
